Digging a hole in the ground might seem like a relatively simple thing to do but it can take many long hours to learn how to drive a digger (the controls are definitely not easy) by which time days may have gone by with barely scratching the surface, the excavations may be dug out to much or to little and with a machine still out on hire this soon costs precious time and money. 

There are also other important considerations to take into account when using any type of plant & machinery.

 

• What is underneath the soil, there may be important but unseen pipes or cables

• What is overhead, care should be taken when using the boom due to overhead cables, building overhangs or other obstacles

• What other buildings or obstructions are there within the working zone, care should be taken when moving or rotating the digger on site to avoid damage to buildings in the immediate vicinity.

• Is the right size bucket being used - too big a hole being dug could mean much more is spent in material/aggregate/concrete costs, too small a hole may mean additional time and expense re-hiring equipment
